The Carolina Panthers kicked off the 2023 NFL Draft by selecting Alabama QB Bryce Young at No. 1, making him the first quarterback to be selected first overall since Baker Mayfield in 2018.

Young is a 6-foot-0, 194-pound quarterback who won the Heisman Trophy in 2021 and was a finalist for the award in 2022. He is considered to be one of the most talented quarterback prospects in recent memory and is expected to be a franchise-changing player for the Panthers.

The Panthers traded up to the No. 1 spot in the draft to select Young, giving up the No. 9 overall pick, a 2024 first-round pick, and a 2025 second-round pick to the Indianapolis Colts.

Young is the third quarterback to be selected No. 1 overall by the Panthers, joining Cam Newton (2011) and Kerry Collins (1995).
